A Week of Drinks

experimenting with iPad Pro + Apple Pencil

A few weeks ago I read about a collaborative project between two information designers called "Dear Data". The designers sent each other a postcard every week with an infographic covering the same theme, over the course of a year. I was so inspired by this collaboration that I decided to conduct my own project.

The theme I settled on was "A Week of Drinks." Each day over the week of Jan 9-15 2017, I would note what I drank and what cups I drank from. Not only would this project allow me to delve into personal data collection and visualization, it would give me an opportunity to improve my drawing. Here's the end result.

Overall I'm very satisfied with how the graphic turned out, despite a few mishaps on cup ratios (I'm looking at you Friday Ball mason jar!).

I was pleasantly surprised by how easy (and fun) it was to draw on the iPad Pro. I spent hours blending watercolors and perfecting sketches, and the time always flew by. To give a sense of how easy it was to pick up drawing on iPad Pro, here are two examples of cups that I drew two versions of - you can really see the improvement after just one sketch.

Left (1st draft) vs. Right (2nd draft): I adjusted 'Smart Water' logo size and updated the colors to better align with reality.
